Rev. Dr. J. Michael Sanders, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, devotedly served as the Pastor of Fountain Baptist Church in Summit, New Jersey, beginning in December 1983. His pastoral journey began at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Lake Lure, North Carolina, where he first embraced his calling.
An alumnus of Benedict College, Rev. Sanders earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Columbia, South Carolina, before advancing to Duke University School of Divinity in Durham, North Carolina, where he was conferred the Master of Divinity Degree. His academic and spiritual contributions have been recognized with honorary doctorates from Benedict College, Florida Memorial University, and New Brunswick Theological Seminary.
Under his visionary leadership, Fountain Baptist Church is committed to mission support, becoming one of Lott Carey’s longstanding and important supporters and partners. In addition, the church made significant contributions to the United Negro College Fund.
His commitment to education and community service has been honored with the inaugural Frank Bolden Honorary Award by the Union County College Foundation, celebrating his efforts to foster African American student success.
Now retired, Rev. Sanders continues to inspire as the vice chair of the board for Lott Carey, helping to guide the organization in its global missional, evangelistic and humanitarian endeavors.
