HIV/AIDS PREVENTION

Following the first HIV diagnosis in 1981, Lott Carey’s then chief executive officer, Dr. Wendell Clay Somerville, expressed the organization’s commitment to people who suffered from the pandemic and our determination to invest in care and support, especially in Africa.  This was a courageous stand in the years when many Christian leaders where condemning victims of AIDS and many people were afraid to be in the presence of HIV-positive people.

 For more than 30 years, Lott Carey has been active in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Over the years, Lott Carey has promoted prevention strategies throughout its network and invested in programs of care and support for people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. We encourage people to be informed and engaged in prevention, care, support, and advocacy.  We live in hope for the day when AIDS is no longer a threat to life and abundant living.

We work to prevent the spread of HIV and to promote care and support for people who are infected and affected. HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is the virus that attacks the immune system and causes AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) in the final stages of infection. HIV is impacting people around the world, and Lott Carey has made a strategic commitment to prevention, care and support.
