Rev. Dr. Brenda McBorrough

Rev. Dr. Brenda McBorrough is constantly about her Father’s business, whether serving as a preacher, teacher, conference speaker, workshop facilitator, missionary or anti-human trafficking or domestic violence advocate, and a local church or broader community servant leader.

Dr. McBorrough acknowledged her call to ministry in 1998, was licensed to preach in 2002, and was ordained as a minister of the Gospel in 2011 at Mount Olive Baptist Church, Centreville, VA, under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Eugene Johnson.  She obtained a Master of Divinity degree from the John Leland Center for Theological Studies in Arlington, Virginia, and a Doctor of Ministry degree specializing in contextual leadership and missional church renewal from the Palmer Theological Seminary of Eastern University, St. David, Pennsylvania. Her doctoral project focused on helping churches develop holistic missional responses while focusing on survivors of family violence.

Convicted that making disciples is a holistic work involving words and deeds, Dr. McBorrough uses her gifts and creativity to help others experience the power of God’s love and to equip disciples to carry out the Great Commission. Dr. McBorrough is passionate and compassionate about participating in God’s mission at home or around the world. She has participated in or led short-term mission immersions to Argentina, South Africa, Ethiopia, Liberia, Ghana, & Puerto Rico.

As an Associate Minister at Mount Olive, Dr. McBorrough is the Minister of Missions and Evangelism, including oversight for the MOBC home and global missions, Food Ministry, Prison and Pathway Ministry, and Community Outreach and support for the Benevolence ministry. She is also the Director of the MOBC Singles Ministry and Associate Director of the MOBC Women’s Ministry, and ministerial consultant to the New Members’ Ministry and the MOBC Prayer Warriors.

Furthermore, Dr. McBorrough serves as President of Lott Carey Baptist Global Mission Community – Women’s Ministry, Women in Service Everywhere (WISE). She provides leadership for women engaged in compassion and evangelism, raising awareness, advocacy, empowerment, and support for women around the world who are often impacted by human trafficking, gendered-based violence, or other forms of discrimination. She is also the Chair of the Commission on Home and Global Mission for the Northern Virginia Baptist Association. She provides missions training and technical support for member churches and leadership for the Association’s missional responses.

Dr. McBorrough also holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Information Systems from Virginia State University, Petersburg, and a Master of Science in Information Systems from George Mason University School of Engineering, Fairfax, Virginia. As a Software Solution Consulting and Management Professional, Brenda excelled in developing innovative solutions, providing operational leadership and administrative support in information technology support services, and leading IT professional services teams to create and support successful collaborative solutions for high-profile clientele. In 2016, she transitioned to focus on ministry and missions but continues to leverage her combined twenty-eight years of senior business, management, systems, and resources development expertise to offer creative solutions in her current roles in the local church and broader community.

Dr. McBorrough’s community service roles include serving in the Fairfax Communities in Action (FCIA) Domestic Violence Committee (2017-2019) and currently as the Fairfax County’s Council to End Domestic Violence (CEDV) as the FCIA representative. She also serves on the Fairfax County Emergency Food Strategy Team and was recognized as the Sully District Community Champion 2021 for her leadership and dedication to responding to families experiencing food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic.
