Lott Carey Deepens International Mission Despite Global Pandemic

Despite the adverse impact of the global Covid-19 pandemic, the Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Society continues to support 14 ministries in 11 countries.

These include disaster relief in the United States, education in Liberia, skills training for young adults in Jamaica, healthcare services in Guyana and India, and victims of sexual slavery in Ethiopia and South Africa.

Updates were provided by Executive Secretary-Treasurer Rev. Emmett Dunn in his report to the 124th Annual Session of Lott Carey held August 10-12 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Meetings are streamed virtually and include interactive participation by global partners in various countries.

Lott Carey supports churches, pastors and communities in Kenya, Nigeria, and Haiti, assists with theological training for pastors and church leaders in Zimbabwe, provides HIV/AIDS education, prevention, care, and support in Ethiopia and sent medical supplies to Kenya.

“We work with people from various ethnic identities, diverse Christian traditions, and different faith communities around shared values and interests to help build a better world,” Rev. Dunn said.

Lott Carey continues to sponsor several programs. More than 12,000 students receive education in Liberia, India, Nigeria, and Guyana. A grant from the Lilly Endowment supports the Thriving in Ministry, which “is designed to expose church leaders and lead pastors to reimagine how to do ministry in an ever-changing environment.”

In the United States, disaster assistance was offered to affected communities in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Jackson, Mississippi, Houston and Dallas-Fort-Worth, Texas, and Puerto Rico.

Lott Carey is based in the Washington DC Metro Area and provides financial support and technical assistance in leadership development, education, training, healthcare, advocacy, and other services.
